A New Project

Thanks to Linda from Blue Eyed Girl, I discovered this fabulous quilt artist Jude Hill.  After seeing Linda's pretty project I felt inspired to have a go myself so I have signed up for Jude's Spirit Cloth Workshop "Cloth to Cloth".
I sat up watching most of the videos last night and today started to sort out bits and pieces of scraps to start weaving my cloth.  Essentially, this course is to make new cloth from scraps of old cloth by simple weaving, hand stitching and embellishment - right up my street.  I am starting with a small block first of all, to see how I go.

I have used  strips from some patterned silk fabrics I bought at last year's Knitting & Stitching Show, plus some of my avocado dyed lace and broderie anglaise and other lace.  I will be hand stitching this when I have finished piecing it together and will post more about it when it is done.

I did something similar eons ago when I was heavy into quilting. We used different fabrics (not divine laces and such) and wove them together. To me, it appeared too 'flat', although colorwise it was interesting.
I can see that the used of laces with dimention must be the trick. Of course, now you are giving me yet ANOTHER idea of what to play with in my home besides avocados!

Looking forward to your finished treasure.
Hugs,
Jan

PS: you'll never get any sleep if you stay up and watch tutorials!!!

I just came over through a link on Jan's (above) blog. I am so glad I did. She said I wouldn't be disappointed and she was right! I'm a new follower. I used to weave ribbons, but this looks amazing. Now I have to try that AND the Avocado dying. I need more hours!!! Thanks for the inspiration, Connie

This looks totally awesome! I adore the combination of fabrics you've chosen...so complementary and visually-pleasing. Can't wait to see the added stitching. Going to have to add that online class to my wish list. Thank you for sharing!

Jude is inspiring, I do like what you are doing here. The lace turned out a beautiful pink indeed. I have dabbled in dying, but not lately. very inspiring.
Happy Valentines day!

I'm so glad you decided to join in! Your 'cloth' looks really beautiful already...I look forward to seeing it completed.
I notice also you've been dyeing with avocado skins.....the pink fabric in my first spirit cloth was done in the same way. Your pieces look great - a successful experiment I should say!
